Our mascot

Federico da Montefeltro (1422-1482), Duke of Urbino, (above) was one of the most successful generals of the Italian Renaissance.

During one of his early campaigns he was wounded, leaving him blinded in the right eye and seriously disfigured.

Federico's portraits thus invariably picture his left, 'good' side.

Our mission

Artnose was founded in 2001 by journalist Percy Flarge to provide a more impartial and insightful news website for the art world.

After winning a string of prestigious international prizes for his own work, Flarge spotted a gap in the market. "It was about three feet square and maybe ten inches deep," Flarge recalls. "A bright light shone out from it, beckoning me in. So I followed."

As well as monitoring events in the art market, Artnose also manages the careers of artists that no-one else will touch in order to nurture their anonymity. The company is based in a vast warehouse in the East End of London and has extensive non-existent worldwide publishing and promotional interests.

Artnose is not affiliated to any media conglomerates, luxury goods groups or other corporate interests and does not 'burn' venture capital, so if you'd like to give some, please leave it in a brown paper bag outside our back door and we'll collect it in the morning. If you have an independent opinion about contemporary art, we're not interested.

We would be delighted to receive your feedback about our website, be it positive or negative. If it's positive, we might consider publishing it. If it's negative, we'll send the muscle round with a baseball bat. So be nice.

Grateful thanks to Aidan Potts for his excellent animated gifs on the Links and Small Ads pages, for which he waived his customary astronomical fee.  (email: aidan at professor potts dot com)

Artnose - Testimonials and Press Applause

"Thank goodness for Artnose, a diamond in a dustbin" - Sinkma Kayak, Yucatan Radio

"If you want a taste of what's hot rather than what's not, get yourself down to the grooviest cube of all - Artnose" - Anglers' Weekly

"Tatless craft" - Rosie Sidestep, 'Drop the Front Page', BBC Radio 4

"London's most fashionable art gallery, Artnose, is where the élite meet to treat themselves to small pieces of triangular pastry on a silver dish. But these are not champagne canapés, no way José. They are part of a new contemporary art installation by Spanish conceptual artist, Juan Peccadiño, the hottest talent in town. Go sniff him out at Artnose." Village Vice

"I cannot recall a London gallery doing so much for home-grown talent as Artnose has done for young British artists in recent years. They need their heads testing." - Byam Sellem, London Evening News

"Oh, ah, ooh, oh, oh, yes, yes, no, a bit lower, mmm, yes, that's it, aaaaah...oh my God..." - Sasha Kant, freelance art critic and commentator

"They're simply divine darling..." - Gloria Summers Day, Editor, The Revealer
