repatriated to Scotland

The international museum and heritage communities were reeling this morning at the news that the British Museum has decided to repatriate its director Neil MacGregor to Scotland.

In an unprecedented act of cultural generosity MacGregor will be shipped back to his country of origin and will go on display in a specially designed gallery at the foot of Castle Mount in Edinburgh.

It is time to look afresh at restitution issues, said a spokesman for the British Museum, and where better to start than with an archaic relic of the Enlightenment?

The Scots are said to be furious at the decision. This is just a cynical attempt to distract attention from the Elgin..., er sorry, Parthenon Marbles controversy, said the Scottish film star James McBond.

MacGregor recently courted controversy through his promotion of a Universal Museumwhich advocates moving every single object ever made in the entire universe into the British Museum where it can all be properly understood by a few aesthetes selected by the Pope.

When put to the vote at a recent Museums Association conference in Brighton, delegates concluded that it was a really lovely idea.
